1) the software is buggy.
2) it has a tendency to download os when you switch chips.
3) it doesn't have a standalone programming software as pickit2 does.
what it has over pickit2 is the support for newer chips.
so if you use chips that can not be supported by pickit2, use pickit3. otherwise, pickit2 is the preferred choice.
I actually just bought two pickit2 in case I damage the one I am using now. for those in China, Sure Electronics makes some really good pickit2 clones and they are cheap (and they work as well).
